The Monkees 60th Anniversary 1966-2026 Lunchbox Stage Building Block Set

Dolenz is the last surviving Monkee, and the anniversary has kept him on the road. His 60 Years of The Monkees tour opened in February and played the songs in the order they first reached radio, while Rhino released the singles collection The A's, the B's, and the Monkees in January. “Last Train to Clarksville,” “I'm a Believer” and “Daydream Believer” still get a room singing by the first chorus.

Fittingly, the tribute takes the shape of a lunchbox, the hinged kind that carried TV stars into sixties schoolyards. The underside of the lid works like a title card, with the logo, the dates and “Hey, Hey, We're The Monkees!” framed by a blue guitar, orange flowers and a little TV with an M on its screen. Below it, the four of them play on a blue stage beneath a marquee sign.

The anniversary box, the open lunchbox stage and all four band figures in a row.

Each figure tells you who he is

Nobody wears a name tag, so you pick out each Monkee by the props, as viewers did in 1966. Three are easy, and the fourth comes down to elimination.

Figure	The giveaway	Who it points to
Blue jacket, behind the kit	Sticks raised over a drum carrying the band’s logo	Micky Dolenz, the drummer on the show
Green jacket, guitar	The green wool hat	Michael Nesmith, whose wool hat was his trademark
Yellow jacket, tambourine	A tambourine instead of a guitar	Davy Jones, the lead singer, usually on tambourine or maracas
Red jacket, cream guitar	Everyone else is accounted for	Which leaves Peter Tork, who moved between bass, guitar and keyboards

Davy Jones died in 2012, Peter Tork in 2019 and Michael Nesmith in 2021, which gives the scene a tenderness the original show never needed. On this stage all four are still mid-song.

Drums, tambourine and two guitars under the marquee, the car’s blower in front.

The red car out front is the Monkeemobile

Pontiac supplied two 1966 GTO convertibles, and customizer Dean Jeffries turned them into the Monkeemobile in less than a month. It is often credited to George Barris by mistake, but the originals were Jeffries’ work.

The brick version keeps the red paint, the cream top and the supercharger standing proud of the hood. The band’s name and 1966–2026 run along the doors, and it sits at the lip of the stage as if the gig is about to move.

The rest of the stage is a sixties den

A wooden cabinet TV shows a black-and-white photo of the group, with a lava lamp on top. A record hangs on the wall, a red guitar waits on its stand beside the amp, and the floor is black-and-white checkerboard.

Lid up on the dining table, ready for the next episode.

Close the lid and it looks like something a fifth grader carried to school in 1967. Open it again and the band is right where you left them, still playing for a crowd of one.

Sixties kids grew up and kept their records

The people most likely to smile at this ran home to catch the show, or found it later in reruns and bought the albums anyway. Set it beside our Beatles Fab Four advent calendar and you have the two bands that sent mid-sixties teenagers running to the record store.

Box and finished lunchbox together against a dark backdrop.

It belongs in a music room or on the desk of anyone who still knows every word to “Daydream Believer.” Sixty years on, that is still a lot of people.
