Pink Floyd The Dark Side of December 2026 Advent Calendar

Put on The Dark Side of the Moon and the first sound is not a guitar or a voice but a heartbeat. The record ends with the same pulse, which is why listeners have played it straight through, start to finish, since March 1973. Here December gets the same treatment, one long piece of music heard a door at a time.

A glass prism stands in still water on the cover, splitting a beam of white light into a rainbow. A pale moon hangs behind it, a clock melts out of the sky, and a row of old arches runs toward a single empty chair.

Prism, pig, power station and guitars, twenty-four pieces from the band’s biggest records.

The Dark Side of the Moon lends the calendar its prism

The prism came from the design studio Hipgnosis, led by Storm Thorgerson, and was drawn by George Hardie. It became one of the most recognised covers ever printed, and the album spent more than 900 weeks on the Billboard 200.

Several ornaments come straight from the tracklist. A clock nods to the ringing opening of "Time", an eclipse to the closing song, a heartbeat line to the pulse at either end, and a synthesizer to the restless electronic rush of "On the Run".

On a desk beside a wall of records, an amp and a guitar, which is exactly where it belongs.

Wish You Were Here remembered a friend who had gone

Two men in suits shake hands on the 1975 cover while one of them burns, and a stuntman really was set alight for the photograph. The handshake gets its own ornament, while an old radio recalls the title track's opening, as if someone is turning the dial between stations, and a cog wheel stands in for "Welcome to the Machine".

The album's heart is "Shine On You Crazy Diamond", written for Syd Barrett, the founder who left in 1968. A shining diamond and a swirling psychedelic portrait of Syd sit side by side, a gentle way of keeping him in the story.

Animals sent a pig floating over Battersea

For the 1977 cover, the band photographed Battersea Power Station in London with a giant inflatable pig tied between its chimneys. In December 1976 the pig broke free and drifted across the flight paths around Heathrow, the kind of story only this band seems to collect.

The power station and the pig get an ornament each. Hang them side by side and the cover is whole again, minus the air-traffic alert.

Flat out on pale wood, the prism, the pig, the radio, the Black Strat and the drum kit.

The Wall went up and came down every night

On the tour that followed the 1979 album, a wall of giant white bricks was built across the stage during the show and toppled at the end. The calendar offers both endings, one wall whole and another broken open with rainbow light pouring through.

The instruments sit close by. There is David Gilmour's Black Strat, a sunburst bass and the drum kit of Nick Mason, the only member who played on every Pink Floyd album.

Stood up on a wooden desk, the ornaments rebuild five album covers at once.

The Division Bell and Pompeii close the circle

Two metal heads face each other on the 1994 cover of The Division Bell, close enough to suggest a conversation. Their ornament sits beside a ruined amphitheatre under a volcano, a nod to Live at Pompeii, the 1972 film of the band playing to empty stone seats, which was restored and returned to cinemas in 2025.

The music keeps finding new listeners, most recently through the 8-Tracks compilation in June 2026. Pair the calendar with these prism rainbow sneakers for the fan who still knows every second of side one.

Held up at a busy desk, the prism catches the morning light.
