Oregon's mascot exists because of a handshake. Seventy-nine years later, the Duck still looks pleased about it.
In 1947, Oregon athletic director Leo Harris and Walt Disney agreed, on a handshake, that the university could use a duck drawn in the spirit of Donald Duck. The deal held for years without much paperwork, and the cheeky bird in the sailor cap became one of the most recognizable mascots in college sports.
The same Duck sits on the side of one boot here, cap tilted, bill wide, looking ready to start something. The upper is a deep forest green, the collar is bright yellow, and the oversized yellow O on the other boot can be read from the top row. "Oregon" runs in yellow along the heel, and the box carries a line drawing of Autzen Stadium.

Autzen Stadium was built to be loud
Autzen opened in 1967, and it has spent most of the decades since earning a reputation as one of the loudest places in college football. Visiting teams talk about the noise the way sailors talk about weather, and the Duck does his part by marking Oregon scores with push-ups in front of the student section.
A boot built around that stadium should feel a little loud as well. Green and yellow are not quiet colors, and the Ducks have never asked them to be.
Green and yellow under a single spotlight.
Green and yellow rarely sit still in Eugene
Oregon is famous for its endless uniform combinations, and since joining the Big Ten in 2024 the Ducks have carried that look to new stadiums across the country. A boot keeps one combination fixed, so the trick is in what you wear around it:
- With dark denim and a gray hoodie, letting the yellow collar be the only flash of color.
- Over yellow socks on game day, for a quiet wink at the tailgate.
- Under a green rain shell on a wet Eugene Saturday, when the stands turn into a sea of hoods.
- With black joggers and a team cap, for road trips to new Big Ten venues.
- With a cream cable sweater in December, when bowl season and holiday photos overlap.
Held up against a stadium full of green and yellow.
The O travels well beyond Autzen
A six-inch lace-up has been crossing from job sites to city streets for half a century, and the shape works here for the same reason. The O turns it into something Ducks fans recognize from across a coffee shop, an airport gate or a crowded holiday party.
On a gray Pacific Northwest afternoon, the yellow collar is the brightest thing in the frame. Ducks fans would not have it any other way.

Every Ducks fan knows someone who deserves a pair
Give them to the student heading to their first home game, the alum who flies back every fall, or anyone who has stood in the Autzen rain and loved it. They also suit the friend who moved away from Eugene but never stopped checking the score.
Fans who collect the Duck in every form can set our Oregon Ducks mascot chess set on the coffee table nearby. Between the board and the boots, the whole house runs on Oregon time.
Lacing up on the sideline bench, with coolers and gear all around.
