Colorado Avalanche Rocky Mountain Snowflake Ugly Christmas Hockey Jersey

One season was all it took. The franchise arrived from Quebec City in 1995, the old Nordiques in new burgundy and blue, and by June 1996 it had swept the Florida Panthers to win the Stanley Cup, the first major professional championship Colorado had ever celebrated. Uwe Krupp ended the final in the third overtime of Game 4, Joe Sakic took the Conn Smythe, and Patrick Roy, acquired from Montreal that December, stood in goal.

Thirty years later the colors have not changed. This Christmas jersey puts the team's A at the center, wrapped in its swoosh of snow with a puck at the tip, under a row of snowcapped peaks across the chest. Waves of snow, crossed sticks, pines and a second range of mountains fill the lower half.

Burgundy and steel blue: the A under the peaks, AVALANCHE over a snowy summit.

Thirty years in Denver have produced three Stanley Cups

Each championship left a picture that Avalanche fans still carry around. Here they are side by side:

Season	Final opponent	The moment
1996	Florida Panthers, a four-game sweep	Uwe Krupp's goal in the third overtime of Game 4 and a Conn Smythe for Joe Sakic
2001	New Jersey Devils, in seven games	Sakic handing the Cup straight to Ray Bourque, a champion at last after 22 seasons
2022	Tampa Bay Lightning	Cale Makar winning the Conn Smythe as the team ended a 21-year wait

The club spent 2025–26 celebrating its 30th anniversary with a logo built from three Roman numeral Xs, the years 96, 01 and 22 tucked underneath. On December 11, 2025, the 1996 champions gathered at Ball Arena for a tribute before a game against the same Florida Panthers they had swept.

A snowflake circling a single summit, the puck sweeping past.

The pattern reads like a trail map of the Rockies

Holiday sweaters usually stick to reindeer and candy canes. This one swaps them for the scenery just west of Denver: jagged peaks, rows of pines, and white waves of snow that look a lot like the thing the team is named after. Burgundy and steel blue read as a winter evening in the mountains before they read as hockey.

The back turns the same idea into an ornament. AVALANCHE arcs across the shoulders, and beneath it a large snowflake surrounds a single summit with the swoosh of snow and puck sweeping past its base.

A burgundy Christmas suits a mountain town

Winter in Colorado is a long run of ski weekends, early sunsets and hockey nights downtown, where Nathan MacKinnon and Cale Makar have given the home crowd plenty to shout about. The fan in our photo wears the jersey over a hoodie on the way to the bench, which is how plenty of Denver dresses from November to March.

For anyone who collects holiday sweaters the way the Avalanche collect Cups, our Stanley Cup champions ugly Christmas sweater makes a fine second piece. Both celebrate the same trophy, and this one adds the mountains.

Layered over a hoodie and ready for the bench.

Three decades ago a team that had barely unpacked in Denver brought home the Cup, and the city has worn burgundy every winter since. This Christmas, wear the A, the peaks and the snow for a franchise that never needed long to feel at home.
