Pokémon x Starbucks Coffee Lovers Canvas Tote Bag

That group scene belongs to the official Pokémon + STARBUCKS collaboration launched by Starbucks Japan on September 30, 2026. Rather than placing a familiar character beside a coffee logo and stopping there, the campaign was built around a larger idea called “Connection Over The Coffee Adventures,” with original artwork following Pokémon and Starbucks baristas through a shared coffee journey.

The design used on this tote is officially known as Coffee Connection. A barista sits at the center while Pikachu, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle and Eevee gather around, all contained within a vivid green circle and surrounded by streamers and confetti. Beneath them is the line that gives the scene its purpose:

“One cup of coffee connects us all.”

Five Pokémon make this more than a Pikachu collaboration

Starbucks commissioned illustrator Hikaru Ichijo to create 12 original pieces of artwork for the 2026 collaboration. The wider story follows five baristas paired with five Pokémon as they explore different parts of coffee culture, from growing coffee plants to preparing drinks and developing their skills together.

Coffee Connection brings those separate relationships into one ensemble.

That matters for a buyer who likes Pokémon as a world rather than collecting only one mascot. Pikachu is here, but so are the three original Kanto starters — Bulbasaur, Charmander and Squirtle — alongside Eevee. Instead of choosing between character-specific merchandise, the tote gives all five space within a single collaboration image.

The green circle behind them also has a deliberate Starbucks connection. Ichijo explained that it originally used another color, but during development the team changed it to green because it felt more recognizably Starbucks. She described that decision as part of the collaborative process behind the artwork itself.

The result is a crossover that does not need oversized brand logos to explain itself. Pokémon supplies the characters; Starbucks supplies the coffee setting and green visual cue; the artwork gives them a reason to occupy the same scene.

Why “One cup of coffee connects us all” belongs on this design

The line printed beneath the artwork is not generic café copy.

Starbucks developed eight story beats for the collaboration, beginning with “Our adventure begins with a cup of coffee” and moving through exploration, craft, partnership and discovery. “One cup of coffee connects us all” is Story 7, The Moment of Victory, when the individual journeys converge into connection.

That context gives the Coffee Connection tote a different personality from the collection's more individual character pieces. It is less about displaying one favorite Pokémon and more about the group finally appearing together.

There is evidence that distinction can matter to actual buyers. One Japanese Starbucks customer described choosing the Coffee Connection card because they preferred having everyone together and specifically liked the accompanying coffee message. That is one person's reaction rather than a universal fan view, but it captures the advantage of this particular artwork: ensemble collectors do not have to pick just Pikachu or Eevee.

A collaboration collectible that does not have to stay on a shelf

The format is another reason this design works.

The official Starbucks Japan Coffee Connection tote is a substantial cotton carryall measuring approximately 44.5 × 14.8 × 39.2 cm, with 46 cm handles, an 85.5 cm shoulder strap and D-ring hardware. Starbucks designed it as one of two tote variants in the collection, alongside the more Pikachu-focused Coffee Adventure version.

That gives the buyer a meaningful choice between two kinds of collaboration merchandise. Coffee Adventure follows Pikachu and a barista toward the next journey; Coffee Connection is the version built around the full group and the social side of coffee.

For a Pokémon collector, Starbucks merchandise follower or someone who simply wants one object from the September 2026 collaboration, a tote has another advantage over a display-only collectible: it can become part of the same everyday routines the artwork is talking about.
Books, a laptop, shopping or the next coffee run can travel inside it. The collaboration does not have to remain stored in packaging once the launch period is over.

That is the strongest reason to choose this version. It takes a campaign about Pokémon, baristas and connection over coffee and turns it into something designed to leave the café with you.
