The number 5972 belongs to a real locomotive. Olton Hall was built in 1937 as one of the Great Western Railway's Hall-class engines, a working steam locomotive that hauled ordinary trains through ordinary weather for years. Painted red and given a new nameplate, it became the Hogwarts Express in the Harry Potter films, and its number turned into one of the most recognizable details in the series.

These clogs put that number on a black plate at the back of each heel, framed by a gold line that runs around the sole like the trim on a carriage. A curved red strap reads Hogwarts Express in raised gold letters and pivots on a Hogwarts crest, while the rest of the clog wears the deep red of the engine itself.

The railway is the heart of the wizarding world

Platform 9¾ is where readers and viewers first understand that magic sits right beside the ordinary. A boy pushes a trolley at a brick wall in a busy London station and comes out on the other side, and from then on the train is how every school year begins and ends. In the films, the Hogwarts Express crosses the Glenfinnan Viaduct in the Scottish Highlands, now one of the most photographed rail bridges in Britain.

The story is about to welcome a new generation of passengers. HBO's Harry Potter series is expected in early 2027, and a whole new class of first-years will hear the whistle for the first time.
